Reflections on Burnham and Barrow

The B and B: St Aubyn's
A view off 17 back to the lighthouse
We have had 4 excellent nights with our hosts at St Aubyns, the rooms are clean, the breakfast tasty and the selection of art and Dalton dolls unigue. We would have no hesitation on returning. The location is central and an easy walk to town, the sea wall or the course.

We played our last game yesterday, a 1030 start and Derrick again joined us. He has been plagued by sore feet due to recent fusion of both great toes. He has played 4 times in the last 3 days and clearly was uncomfortable. He had agreed to drive John to the train in Bristol and time ran short so they had to leave early. In a way I am glad they did so as Derrick was clearly in pain.

All were playing better, the Pope shot 77! I was better with a 39 on the back for an 84, by far my best score, John was out in 39, so the team is ready for the upcoming tournament in Antwerp.

After the round we tried to charge lunch on Nugent's account. It was closed . Team harmony may have been compromised due to his appropriate concerns of Brian and I taking liberties!

As always there is some sort of theatre, upon our return to the B and B, and in the midst of watching Andy Murray somehow survive a last rally to win Wimbelton there was a knock on the door. Brian had lost his phone! No worries I thought, we had just signed up for "friends" a iphone app that locates other iphones with the user's agreement. His did not show on my screen! This was now serious! As Brian went downstairs to use the house  phone he was informed the taxi we had just taken was outside. Sure enough the phone had fallen out of his shorts, recognized quickly by the driver and returned.I reflected as to whether this would happen in Vancouver.

I have included some snaps of the course, to help give a visual of our experience.

3/8 ths of team Canada on the 1st at Burnham and Barrow

The Pope in his office, Nugent deciding his driver best suited as a back scratcher after pushing it right.
Derrick takes dead aim at the church after yet another booming drive

A closer look at the church centuries old and still in service!

The local bones yard on about an acre of land in town
When traveling with the Pope there are habits which can not escape notice. First his fascination with churches and second a propensity to tour grave yards. I am afraid all we ever find there is my game!

The town is small and cuisine is satisfactory. We ate in Dunstan's pub last night, a hearty meal and a few ales. Every Sunday they have a music quizz, there were about 50 people spread throughout filling in their question sheets as various tune from the 50's to current were played, seems very popular locally.

A busy travel day today, more reporting from Belgium!

The local fish and chips outlet, I liked the name!
